8. Speakin’ Nuyorican – Captain Planet
9. Ole (Cairo Version) – Salah Ragab And The Afro Egyptian Ensemble

A Mix up of styles in this mixtape.

First up is an ace slice of electro funk from Ed DMX’s Fresh Up label. Love this tune. Rumours over who the musicians are behind some of these releases on Fresh Up. Anyone think Rephlex personal of Ed DMX, Aphex Twin, Mike Paradinas???

Second up Mr Scruff & Kaidi Tatham provide some pure flutey funk beats on David Wolstencroft’s Manchester imprint Prime Numbers.

Third up New Zealander Lord Echo funks up some grooves, available on Bandcamp. See the link below.

Fourth a Jeremy Sole offering from Soundcloud. An excerpt from his remix of George Duke‘s Percussion Interlude. If you fancy some eclectic West Coast vibes, check out Jeremy’s KCRW weekly radio show, available on listen again here.

Fifth up Will Holland‘s dub and Colombian hybrid band Flowering Inferno bring us The Death of The Revolution. Love Quantic’s Colombian output. Looking forward to this years collaboration with Frente Cumbiero. Check out this video here. Can’t wait to get my hands on this record.

Sixth up is a nice number from Colombian label Palenque Records. Sweet sounds!

Seventh is a Captain Planet (aka Chuck Wild) classic in Speakin’ Nuyorican. Keep giving us those worldwide beats Captain!Check out his excellent mp3 blog here.

Before the next one I played a small slice of the Quanitc remix of the classic 70s African classic Disco Africa by The Ogyatanaa Show Band. The original can be found on the classic Ghana Soundz 2 compilation. You have to own these two Ghana Soundz compilations. Dropped the speed down on this just to bridge me to …

Last and definitely not least a great version of Ole, with the legendary Fela Kuti sticks man Tony Allen on the drums. From the class Honest Jon compilation of Tony Allen remixes ‘Lagos Shake – A Tony Allen Chop Up

Enjoy!

Pour mes amis à Morzine

Posted in Almondos DJ Mixtapes on February 2, 2012 by almondos

1. Mirame – La Troba Kung-Fu vs. DJ Sabo
2. Hairy Bumpercress – Mr Scruff
3. Lujo De Pobre (Daniel Klauser techno Cumbia remix) – Sancocho E Tigres
4. Frequency (Luke Vibert Remix) – Mark Archer
5. Afro Disco (Infragandhi & Cameleon Selecta remix) – Zeb
6. Mi Tierra – Sabo & Uriel
7. Ogidi Inwelu (Lazy Flow remix) – Onyenze
8. Flex EFX (Shantisan Baile Tech DUB) – jazz.K.lipa

As I am stuck at home with a broken leg rather than doing 360s on the slopes in Morzine, here is a mix in my place for my friends who have thoughtlessly gone there without me.

The Desperados picture is in homage to a bar in Morzine which sells the stuff. A sensible drink lager laced with tequila, sure you’ll agree.

First up is another track off the Madrid based Lovemonk remix compilation “Más Achilifunk: Gipsy Soul From 21st Century”. It’s a remix compilation of tracks from the earlier “Achili Funk: Gipsy Soul 1969-1979“. Both records are great and I think everyone should have both! I’ve played them out a lot.

Second is the tea master himself, Manchester’s very own Mr Scruff with a track from his 2008 album Ninja Tune. New album should be due out soon. Get a move on Scruffy!

Third up is a track from Subatomic Sound’s Sancocho e’ Tigres compilation which was organized by Rebel Records’ Caballo and recorded throughout Mexico, South America, & Canada as collaboration between Latino digital cumbia producers and musicians.

Definately a big change for the next track. This is a track by Mark Archer, which is remixed by Luke Vibert. Samples you may recognise, LFO’s “Low Frequency Oscillation” and Captain Beefheart “Fast and Bulbous” lyric from the track Pachuco Cadaver from Trout Mask Replica! Something for everyone : )

Up sixth is a Zeb (AKA The Spy from Cairo) track ‘Afro Disco’ keeping up my quota of tracks in my mixes from the Turntables on the Hudson mob. Remix duties performd by Infragandhi & Cameleon Selecta.

Seventh we got a track from the Akwaaba Remixed compilation from Perfect Losers. This track is $1 for a FLAC download on bandcamp. I love Bandcamp! The album is only $8, and none of this charging through the nose for FLAC, same price. I love Bandcamp!

Last up another Bandcamp bargain, this time from Timewarp Music’s offshoot Kraak Records. Just 5EUROS an album in FLAC? Ta very much, some good tracks on there too, it’s a selection of tracks remixed from jazz.K.lipa’s earlier Global Dancehall 2010 release, which has some tasty digital reggae featuring Soom T. Nuff said as it were.
